Seven Layers Deep

Seven Layers Deep

A Poem by Kimberly Ellis
"

I might make some changes to it...

"
seven layers deep,
you're breathlessly scratching and scraping,
the truth is buried far beneath
your widely gaping flesh wounds.

seven layers down,
you're vigorously twisting and turning,
searching through this deep darkness,
but your candle's burning ever so bright.

seven layers under,
you've taken to high pitched screaming and yelling
hoping someone close might hear you
pleading your story amongst empty echoes.

seven layers of you,
with raw truths and damaged skin
sitting in this empty space with nothing and
no where to begin, the candle flickers.

seven layers deep,
you're peeling them apart, one at a time, at the seams,
all you can hear now is the sound of your own heartbeat
revealing your very deepest fears, memories, hopes and dreams.

Dark and honest, I like it. I especially love the line: pleading your story amongst empty echoes.
Great job!
