A Poem by Authoress

Sadness will curve your bones
And stoop you over, kill
That inch more of height you hoped
For, weigh on your shoulders
Like a metaphor - always so
Heavy.
Sadness will make your smile
Harder to reach, your eyes
Narrow without a grin, exhaustion
Seep into your veins and
Poison your heart 'till it shrivels like
Charcoal.
Sadness will find every demon
Conjured in the mind of you ten
Years ago and stick them all
In places you hadn't noticed or
Protected in years and refuse to
Stop.
Sadness will bring you a piece
Of yarn and demand a steel cable in
Return, and when you have
None left but a pile of yarn in
Their wake, it will knot the strings too
Tightly.

But Depression will snap your
Spine in half, turn your smile
Into a wail, your eyes into pools, and
Your heart so red and raw
It will become nothing more than
Blood.
Depression will make demons of its
Own and throw them at you
Continuously, promising to stop and never
Ceasing, become the pile of frayed
Nerves you are to people who walk
Normally.
Depression will take the cords and
Cables in you and replace them
With thread so old you could pluck it
Once and tear it straight
Though - and it will cry about it with
You.

Sadness will beat you.
Depression will be you.
