I’m drinking this beer

sitting in this chair

on the beach

thinking about us.

Somebody has to do it.

 

I’m writing this song

about how we were in love

sitting on a chair

watching the waves come in

on the beach.

Somebody has to do it.

 

I wish I had a dollar

for every drink

I drank for her

because I used to

have those dollars

and her.

Now I don’t.

 

So, I’ll just drink this beer

sit on this chair

at the beach

watch the ocean

and think about us.

 

So, don’t ask me why

I’m drinking this beer

staring at the ocean

because I’d

have to tell you

I did it for her.

And she doesn’t even know.

 

So, I’ll just watch the waves come in

one after the other

like they always do.

 

For now

I’ll be here

just in case

something different happens.

If the ocean stops

I’ll let you know.

 

But for now

I’ll drink this beer

and think about

me and her

looking at the ocean.

Somebody has to do it.
