Scars

Scars

A Poem by Avia
"

What do you see in your scars?

"
The scars on my skin
the darkened patches of healed wounds
Make me recall the falls, the injuries.
The mistakes i have since learnt from.

The scars in my mind, remind me of my brokenness.
Of my regrets and crippling guilt.
The come up like a glaring reflection,
Illuminated by the light of self loathing thoughts

The scars in my heart remind me of my pain.
The pain of wrong choices and disappointment.
Drowned memories of all I wish to forget.
Those i wish i didn't have, that never happened.

Then....
The scars in my soul tell me i am now whole.
They tell a story of my recovery,
The long road I am still on.
Grace and mercy I simply don't deserve.
Amazing and precious love that guides me.
Peace that overwhelms and takes over.
Faith that shreds the doubt of what i believe.
I am strong. My mistakes don't define me.
My scars do not hurt me, they simply remind me.

Your poems are your strength. The lines are so elegant and well put together.
I like the ending about how the scars are not there to break you or haunt you, but the fact you survived and how strong you are.

Below was my favorite part.

The scars in my mind, remind me of my brokenness.
Of my regrets and crippling guilt.
The come up like a glaring reflection,
Illuminated by the light of self loathing thoughts

Glaring reflections being the best bit, so vivid and deep. Something so hard to unsee, yet always there in the cornor of your mind.
Good job.

Thank you. Your advice will be super helpful for me to get better at writing
Yes! I think we always need to see the scars and remember. Without them, we may forget just how good and gracious God is, and the magnitude of pain he went through to have us. It reminds us of His love.

Very profound and powerful. You don't need the second repetition of "they remind me" in Stanza 2, nor do you need the "now" (of "the long road I am still on now), for musicality and power do quite well without them. Other than that, this is beyond words. Well done!

Thanks for the corrections and I'm happy you liked it :)
Believe me, this touched my heart. The transformation is very strong and the scars made you a person you are today. Such strong and motivating poem. I really liked this. I can relate with it but couldn't think of writing such a wonderful poem. I thank you so much for writing and sharing.

You are most welcome.
I just wrote this, not very intentionally, just following the words as they came. I would love to know if this speaks to you.
