The Seed

The Seed

A Poem by Dezaraye
"

It's within us all.

"

So tiny it lies
Beneath the ground.
Overwhelming piles of sludge
Holding it captive.

Tendrils of frost
Reach down with long fingers
Teasing and tormenting
Chilling.

At last a ray of light
And warmth seeps down to
A shivering, shaking seed
Overwhelmed and insignificant.

The sun's rays embrace it
Warming and comforting
And at last the seed stretches
Toward the light

Pushing through the muck
And allowing nothing to stand in its way
Working, straining
At last it's above the ground.

Nothing can stop it now
Hope becomes its mantra
And even rainy days strengthen it
Until, one day, it stands tall.

It stands strong against the wind
And mighty against the storms
Sometimes it bends and sways
But never does it break.

Something insignificant
Has grown to something great
Weathering the storms
And reaching for the light.

This isn't the best I've ever written, but it comes from inside me while I'm nurturing my own seed and trying to help it grow ...

THe thought that kept coming to mind was our one fight to grow and stand and be strong. We are the seed, too. This is a wonderful write, Dezaraye. Thank you for sending it to me. I always look forward to returning the many wonderful reviews you've given me.

I loved this and thought you wrote it so wonderfully and I know it is an uplifting piece but I have to tell you it took on a whole new meaning to me than your other reviewers as I was listening to Color Blind by the Counting Crows while I was reading this and WOW I am not sure if it was the song or the place that it put me as I heard and read it was purely a spiritually awakening as I felt this connection of life and the world surrounding me all come into focus and seeing it in a new way with new eyes. Like seeing it for the first time or seeing it after I had been there a hundred times before but the way the light was hitting it today made it change into something purely breathtaking. I know I am rambling but I feel so grateful for the experience.

Great Job!!!!!!

This is amazing. I think it describes how we each try to grow. I actually thought that there would be a time when I would reach "full grown", but we never really do. We just keep growing and changing. You captured the process beautifully. Glad you are feeling more hopeful.

Ahh the power of hope and determination. It's probably silly to humanize something that's not human but it's hard not to see nature as a metaphore sometimes. Lovely write.

Thank you for sharing this is a beautiful part of you! I love the way you describe yourself as the life of a seed. Pushed down and stuck under the "muck" of the world; and then bursting forth towards the beauty of the light! Even when the harsh winds blow you are strengthened! This is a favorite! ~ Jude xo

I read an article once called People as Trees. This poem reminds me of it. I can see you and this seed as one and the meaning very powerful. Medicine!

This is well-written. A beautiful piece of literature. It is the storms we weather that shape the persons we become. Thanks for sending it to me, I enjoyed it.

A delightful poem before my eyes, rich descriptions of a lone seed trying to evolve and become, a bit life life itself, don't you think? Even a child, reaching for the Love which is like the sun to a plant, you took my mind and heart out and beyond.

Very inspiring! Especially as here winter moves into spring and the fingertips of the trees become red with buds and green with budding leaves. And personally it comforts me because as the spring comes on I can feel mt own seed pushing through the muck, resisiting the fingers of frost, and growing.
