The ABC Song

A little poem I wrote to help my son with his ABCs. Some of the meter is not great, but I wanted to try and keep the words simple for him.

A is for apple

B is for ball

C is your coat that you hang on the wall

D is for dolphin

E is for egg

F is the foot at the end of your leg

G is for glasses

H is for hay

I is an ice-cream cone on a hot day

J is for jelly

K is for key

L is a leaf on the branch of a tree

M is for monkey

N is for nest

O is for orange - the fruit I like best

P is for puppy

Q is for queen

R is the rainfall that keeps the grass green

S is for spider

T is for train

U is umbrella to keep off the rain

 

V is for violin

W is for wrap
X marks the spot on an old treasure map

Y is for yellow

Z is for zoo

I know my alphabet - how about you?!

 

Author's Note

If anyone thinks there are better words/rhymes I could use here that would be more suitable for a child (my son is 4) then by all means do so.

This is fabulous! Seriously. I can see it as one of those hard books for younger children. With some good illustrations this would fly off the shelf. I'm sure your son loves it. He's a lucky boy!

This is great. My mom was a preschool teacher for many years and this is something I could picture her posting on her wall. I really love this and think it is a perfect and creative way to help your son learn his ABC's.

How creative and what a great parent to come up with this to help thier child remember something so important :) I had trouble with my boys not wanting to recite thier ABC's too. The only thing I would change is the xylophone but thats just cause I think my son would have trouble with that word. Hope you send this to a magazine or something!
