The Baboon in the Balloon

The Baboon in the Balloon

A Poem by Baz
"

A baboon takes a ride in a hot air balloon.

"

There once was a happy and carefree baboon

Who went for a ride in his hot air balloon

And while he was drifting he whistled a tune

As he floated away in the warm afternoon

But soon the baboon drifted towards a typhoon

And was trapped in the powerful raging monsoon

Then he crashed in the ocean (his basket was strewn)

And was stranded afloat in a makeshift pontoon

But then the pontoon floated towards a lagoon

And the baboon's pontoon came to rest on a dune

Where he heard a mean hunter with net and harpoon

Say "I'll sell this baboon for a golden doubloon!"

But the wily baboon found the mean hunter's prune

Which he coated with poison (to which he was immune)

And then soon the buffoon with the net and harpoon

Fell asleep as he ate up the prune on a spoon

The baboon once again sailed upon his pontoon

And while bobbing along he encountered a goon

Which, for the baboon, proved a wonderful boon

As she took him back home to his cosy commune

So no more the baboon flies his hot air balloon

For he fears that once more his pontoon will maroon

But sometimes at night, softly humming a tune

He dreams that he flies by the light of the moon...
