Fighting To Survive

Fighting To Survive

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

"Marriage is a human right, NOT a heterosexual privilege"

Normal girl

So you’d think
You’d never know
If I didn’t let you see
I’m a lesbian
Girls are my desire
Boys are nothing but a pain
Who are you to judge
I didn’t choose to be this way
Honesty is a notion
Chemical  imbalance in the brain
Why should I have to change?
Giving into pressure
I wish would go away
Society has me afraid
To live another day
*
Many mean names
You will call to my face
You just hate me
Because I’m gay
Call me a f*g
Or queer if you will
Your names are hurtful
They aim to kill
I live my life
With him by my side
Why should I have to keep who I am inside?
I may be a guy
But why should I hide
Why do I fear
Letting my true colors shine
*
To some I’m straight
I swing both ways
Why should I choose
Both are great
Call me a freak
Call me what you please
I refuse to let you see
How bad you words hurt me
Bisexual
I’m not afraid
You call me everything
But never to my face
To some I’m perfect
To those who care
Why do I have to change how I appear
I’m normal in my way
This is how I want it to stay.
*
Born a man
A girl trapped inside
Is it so bad
I want her to fly?
I want you to know me
The real me
Outside it is he
Who controls who to be
I want to be here
I was born inside
If only they knew
I’m not a guy
Born with wrong parts
A mix up was made
But why does it matter
I love myself this way
*
Beauty lies within
So I was told
Why should they hide
They deserve to boast
Identity is nothing
Constantly judging
Throwing their feelings away
How would you feel
If society cast you away
*
Easily subsuming
Hard to repair
How would you feel
If you were talked about that way
Beauty is absent
In your judgmental eyes
Hiding the truth
Fit to survive
Give up this game
Nobody wants to play
If only you knew
They cannot change
It wasn’t up to them
They were born this way.

I will definitely try to keep this in my mind as I write mine later down the line. =-0

I love this. No one should be punished for seeing beauty in different forms. As long as you strive to be a good moralistic person why should it matter who you love?
