Paint Me Color

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

Paint me color
Hide behind your mask
Earnest longing
You can't change the past

Easy reaction
Words marked with hate
Lonely is this game
We have come to play

Mirrored attraction
Fill us with dread
At the end of the day
We're better off dead

Depression statement
Imprinted in mind's eye
Who are you to judge
Your crimes are far worse than mine

Paint me color
Hide behind your mask
Earnest longing
You can't change the past

Author's Note

Alicia Hirshey
I may have been selfish. I'm not the only one feeling like the world is out to get me. I'm not the only one who is sad. I'm not the only one struggling. After seeing the picture I used with this poem I was struck, like being slapped in the face. I'm not the only who is hurting. Somewhere in the world, at this very second somebody else is hurting just the same if not worse than I am. It's not right that I sit here and loath around while they fake their smiles and go about their lives as if nothing is wrong. This is for them. Those stronger than me.

Good expressions of emotion and flow. Paint me color!! Nice work.

None of us can change the past but we certainly have control of much of our today. We control our own happiness unless we decide to hand it over to those who paint us colors that clash with who we really are. Powerful piece Ali
