Diamond Angst

Diamond Angst

A Poem by Alicia Hirshey

"
I am the shadow,
and the smoke in your eyes I am the ghost,
that hides in the night
-------
Visions of torment
Play into the dread
Countless visions
Circle my head
Catching glimpse
Dying fight
Who are we
In this shattered life
------
Wait a minute
Take a step back, Gotta think twice
 Before you react. So stay,
Stay a little while
 Cause a promise Not kept
Is the road to exile Hey,
What's the circumstance You'll never be great
 Without taking a chance Wait
You waited too long Had your hands in your pocket When you should've been gone.
----------
Fight
Show them you care
Free your spirit
From worry or care
Join
The side your on
Lead them to nothing
Make them hang on
Run
In circles fast
Hang on to lightening
You'll never get back
------
 One push
Is all you need
A fist-first philosophy
We watch

 With wounded eyes.
 I hope you recognize.
Out on the front line,

 Don't worry
I'll be fine
 The story

 Is just beginning
I say goodbye to my weakness,

 So long to the regrets
 And now I see

The world through diamond eyes
---------
Falling from grace
Short of a name
Make for yourself
In life silly game
Hang on to shadows
That haunt from your past
Blow into the fire
Of things
You hope to take back
Anger will form
Not a new trait
Killing isn't easy
You have to concentrate.
---------

Damn it all down Took one to the chest
without even a sound
What do you want The things
You love
Or
The people you hurt Hey, it’s like deja vu
 Suicidal maniac
With nothing to lose So wait,
It's the exception to the rule Everyone of us is expendable
--------
Run as fast as you can
The trigger man
Hides close at hand
Fighting for talent
He has not found
Another cold body
Has hit the ground
Fight to stay alive
Pray to god
You'll make it
Out alive
Tragedy
Closing in fast
Turning to something
That never will last
Wait until it's all gone
Fight
The war is un-won
Everyday is another
like the shell
Of a shot gun
---------
Every night of my life

 I watch angels fall
 From the sky Every time
That the sun still sets I pray they don't take mine
Out on the front line
Don't worry

I'll be fine
 The story
 Is just beginning
I say goodbye to my weakness,

 So long to the regrets
 And now I see

That I'm Alive

Author's Note

Alicia Hirshey
[The parts in bold are taken from the song Diamond eyes by Shinedown]

I don't know why I wrote this or what feelings even went into it. All I know was with the song and my feelings this is what happened. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

I feel that the parts that you wrote stand out on their own merits. I read through the poem twice, once in its entirety and the second time only the parts that you wrote. I think with some tweaks here and there it would be a very good poem with just the parts you have here.

Very well done, its as if you have to suffer and die to be reborn again to see the brightness of a new future that is in reach.

This is great! I love the idea of having a dialogue with song lyrics. Well done!

Ella, I can say this as a fan of your work and as a fan of Shinedown as well, that you masterfully blended the song with your own work. The piece in it's entirety is a truly amazing piece. Very well done!
