That Four Letter Word

That Four Letter Word

A Story by Brittany Evans

I have always wanted to be someone who makes a difference in the world. To be a role model for other generations. To have millions of people say my name.
What's stopping me?
FEAR.
The number one dream crusher. Who would have thought a four letter word could be so powerful, yet in so many different ways.
I have a fear of anxiety.
Being one who has anxiety and fears it will take over ....well takes over.
I don't think I would have such bad anxiety if i didn't fear it would appear every second of the day. Knowing how a panic attack feels.....knowing I could be trapped in my fear..terrifies me.
Don't you wish you could talk to a million people and not feel one twitch of anxiousness.
My dream is to not fear what is become of me. I will always have anxiety.
But to what extent?
If i don't fear it it wouldn't be as overpowering.
If I live in my fear forever i will always be writing behind a wall of cement that holds me back.
FEAR.
Ya that word.
Fear latches on to peoples lives like a leech. There is no getting rid of it. But there is a way to live with it and not live in it.

Fear is but fear itself...they say...yet fear is what you make it be...since fear is you...not a devil or a villain...it's a manifestation of self...only you have to take it out of your mind...and begin to start living...I believe any one would have anxiety talking to a million people all at once...that's a big audience...yet if you are prepared --- the challenge in put forth...it does not matter if it was a billion people...and so on...the way you wrote this --- seems venting your emotions...about your fear...and I see why you put it as a story instead of a poem...

Oh, that anxiety. So many people struggle with it. You described it really well and in few words. I really enjoyed the read!

I really liked this, you described it perfectly. I'm having a lot of trouble with anxiety. It makes us into people that we don't want to be.

To stand unafraid? I don't think that's the point. To overcome the fear and keep moving forward… that's the goal. Fear can cripple, but it can also push us ever forward. It's like a great, snarling beast, waiting to trample us. Don't be afraid of fear. Jump on, hold tight, and ride that bucking beast wherever it leads you.

You're welcome, and God speed.
Hard to stand unafraid. One of my favorite writers (Dryden) wrote. Write the truth with conviction and honesty. Don't become a martyr. A dead writer cannot help anyone. Fear is a bad thing. Better to be fearless than watch the world fall apart. A very good story. You open the door for a long conversation with many answers. Thank you for sharing the story.
