A Poem by A. Kim Spradling
"

It helps to know.

"

Understanding for those who hurt us,

Is not always easy to do.

Do they understand the pain they cause?

I’m not sure they have the first clue!

Anger and hate is never the answer

For punishing those that you "love".

Some think that the absolute way

Is handled with a slap or a shove.

These words are not for the spiteful.

They are for the injured out there.

Even when one hurt you so badly,

You should not distrust those who care.

Because there has been much agony,

Does not mean you’ve suffered in vain!

It’s time to lay aside the fear,

And release the worry and strain.

When one truly loves another,

In their soul is real understanding.

Patience lives within their hearts.

Kindness overrules the demanding.

Please know!

I’m not so different than you!

I’ve endured a wound or two.

When I let go, my heart, it grew.

May the flame burn forever true.

This reminded me of three things.
1] Never measure your pain to others. I think you got this across really well.
2] Kindness is not a weakness. A creed of mine and something we all appreciate over being demanded of something.
3] Understanding someone or something prevents a lot of misunderstandings. Kind of in the word, but growing up I made so many mistakes, had to do many terrible things to find my way, and now that I've found myself I don't wish things to be different for myself because its made me who I am but at the same time, everyone is different, and if there is a way I can spare someone the excess pain I will do my best.

You got all three of these points in this writing, in such a powerful and emotional way, conveyed so well and written well. Very good.

Also, understanding those who hurt us. I like this line and wisdom a lot better than "forgive for yourself not for who hurt you" because I think it's more fitting and better. For three/four years I struggled to overcome the physical and emotional abuse my father left on me and everyone kept telling me to forgive, but I couldn't, and still haven't but I got to understand him. Understand him and the situation, his past, and his history. By doing so I was able to let go and move on, but I don't forgive, and I don't forget.

What a beautiful glimpse of pure love, of the strength that love can give us to rise above the painful places. Understanding is something the world needs so much more of now, day by day it seems the cuts grow deeper. May your words become a song to guide us all to a better world.

Thank you again for your kind words to me. I hope the healing and peace goes farther than me.
This poem gives a life lesson to the abusive or hurtful people that don't know the real meaning of how to love back.

I always like the sentiments in your poetry, and I think you know how to get your ideas across well.

The fifth stanza is my favorite, but I also really liked the lines

“These words at not for the spiteful/ they are for the injured out there”.

As well as the first line

“Understanding for those who hurt us”

I enjoyed reading!

no problem at all, i like reading them so i give reviews as well
This preaches a good message that everyone should take to heart. It flows well right down to a cool "don't forget" kind of ending that's a real kicker. If I may take my red pen to it:

-"Doesn't mean to distrust those who care" too wordy for the musicality, and there you go with your "to" again :p, but this time I know it gotta go. Better as "You should not distrust those who care" OR "It's best not to distrust....." (that way you can keep your "to").

-"vein" is the blood vein....."vain" is the "futile/useless" partner of "in" in the expression, "in vain"

This is otherwise fantastically written. Well done!

Very good spiritual advice in this one, though sometimes it's hard to practice it. Please do a spell check on the last word of line 2, verse 4.
