BRILLIANCE

BRILLIANCE

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Sci-FI; Surrealism

"
Nude goddess, keeper of floating planets
ballerina arms, slightly bent at the elbow
hands flare, fingers wispy
like creeping vines
miniature head, twisted, disjointed
slight smirk on her petite face
Knees turn
reveals the soft darkness below
rich as a stemmed glass of deep red wine
thin curvaceous torso
full bosoms
she reaches out for a caress
void of love's fusion
Abstract world of brush strokes
echoes the artist's gift
black lines express her contour
muted hues of pink, yellow
divulge her sumptuous flesh
Goddess of lust, alone, yearns
for her earthly artist
to transform, fulfill her covets
together as they drift among the planets
melt away into brilliance
a masterpiece to behold

One of my favorite things is to write a poem while looking at art. I love the art you chose (1) becuz of the abstract yet mostly realism style and (2) becuz I've been having a love affair with the human body while writing the book I just finished (some may read it as erotica, but for me, it's just loving the human form). Your poem is easily equal to the art. You show us you seeing the art, the way you see it, which I think is interesting, like a voyeur. I didn't open your art at first, so I was about 1/3 way thru before I realized this is about art, so then I opened the pic. There was only one line that caused a bump for me: "slightly bent at the elbow" -- it sounds too conversational, the long full clunky version of how things can be stated, rather than the poetic shorthand you use everywhere else. Hope you & yours have been untouched by anything tough during this pandemic (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks for the great review and nice to have you back!!! hugs
How in the world could you pull this off, Betty?
An X-rated poem, in an allegory that turns it into a PG masterpiece...
I never thought of the planets in a sensual manner...but from now on...I will look at them so differently.
You stir the imagination with your words.

I've always found paintings to be a great source of inspiration for writing poetry. I love how you have interpreted the artist's brush strokes in this one Betty. Well done.

To me, she's waiting for another to join her in her darkness also void of love. I love surrealism. Nice one.

About
My love of poetry results from my love of art. As a painter I am able to express myself on a canvas. As a poet my words come from my heart, my moods, sometimes sad, mostly upbeat. I like to use vivid .. more..
