SEPTEMBER: A TALE OF TWO SEASONS

SEPTEMBER: A TALE OF TWO SEASONS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

nature, summer/fall, activities

"
Emergence
surge of the season
heat scorches golden sand
burnt bodies peel off the beach
swim towels scatter, soda pop cans astray
sandcastles upside down, washed away
smells of suntan lotion and seaweed
trickles of waves bubble to the shore
last idle days of summer

Culmination
sun's energy pales
beaches pause
hollow, beseech sunbathers, walkers
footprints of Sandpipers scamper
scents of salty sea waves swell near the beach
bright red faces fade, scabby skin

Brand new flavor bursts in
muffles breath of cool air
slight breeze swings one's hair
refreshes the core
hints of red, yellow, green hues
alight on leaves
sun glowers
fall beckons

I love September too. Here in Michigan. We can have the Indian Summer. The change of color can begin. September is a colorful month. I enjoyed how you described the month. Thank you dear Betty for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome dear Betty.
"Footprints of Sandpipers scamper" is my favorite line.
Your poetry encompasses so many venues of the seasons.
Summer is a special time and you have spoken of it in
clever endearing ways. truly, Pat

Having gtown up steps ftom the beach, I can relate to your poem. It was sad when summer came to and end but all forgotten when the season turn and the joy of fall was upon us.

You really paint a picture with your words. The first stanza reminded me of the show Lost. Wonderfully penned write. Tyfs

Love the activity, the colours and how the senses are stimulated in these lines Betty. The shifting of the seasons. You have penned a visual beauty here. One of your best I would say. Really appreciated the alliteration and the references to the natural environment. Well done Betty. A little gem you have created here.

You too my friend :)
You've described my favourite season in a very colourful way, busily and gaily in those first two stanzas and then, you've leaped into the peaceful eruption of beautiful days and glorious colours! First comes the palette and then the pale calm... beautiful, Betty!

' Brand new flavor bursts in - muffles breath of cool air - slight breeze swings one's hair - refreshes the core - hints of red, yellow, green hues - alight on leaves - sun glowers - fall beckons '-

You spoke my kind of time! Take care, keep safe, Betty. :)
Haven't spent that much time on the beach, even tho it's only 20 miles from me as the crow flies. I've been more of a river person since there's a great one only 2 miles from me. Haven't been there in years since I'm housebound, but I hear people b***h about how the summer revelers leave their trash & it's always a mess (unlike how we insisted on carrying out our trash, back in the day!) Reminds me of growing up at a recreational lake where I was always glad when summer was over & the tourists went home, so I could have "my lake" to myself! Love how this is packed with relatable details which stir up even more visions of bygone days (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

sounds beautiful!!
the winding down of last days of summer is bittersweet. The ease of days at the beach fading into another season that brings a fresh crisp outlook with vibrancy. Autumn somehow feels nostalgic and spiritual in ways. It’s everything connecting exactly like you said

Yes, I'm eagerly waiting for fall to come...thanks for your lovely comments; best, Betty
This poem reads somewhat like a collage, a bringing together of various elements illustrating how the different phases of September presented. The beach is nice, but I must confess I am glad to see the cool air come. This year's heat and humidity were something else.
