BORIS AND ROCKY

BORIS AND ROCKY

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

political satire

"
Rocky the Red Breasted Robin bops to a nearby oak tree
he beholds and notes an empty nest
after a lengthy bop, he feel totally fatigued
and deems he owes himself a needed rest

Along skips Boris the Blue Jay
he looks up but the nest is sozzled with stuff
he squawks to Rocky, who willfully ignores him
hence Boris is irate and fever pitch tough

Boris flies up the tree to settle this tiff
Rocky stretches out and pitches Boris a wink
what a lovely nest to rest
get out, this is mine you stink

Boris flies to earth in a dour mood
he is shopworn of blowups, and in need of a break
he ponders his next vital move
to forge a new take

At dark when Rocky slumbers in the nest
Boris turns into a witch
spits out fire from his beak
and kicks off his bold venture without a hitch

Rocky the Red Breasted Robin snores and whistles in his sleep
Boris the Blue Jay holds a grand goal
he sneaks up to the nest in utter silence
and spits fire to induce Rocky to roll

At once, Rocky's balance is off
help me, I'm the king of the nest
I shan't lose it to a Blue Jay
or I will never ever rest

Think there's a hint of pitch and putt here.. a laugh at someone else's way of being.. asinine, maybe .. as puffed up little feathered friends (?) can be. You so often have a way of using one of your many voices to tweet, Betty,, and this is more than a clever one. Would be undiplomatic for me to say more.. but could, as well you know!

Dear Betty, couldn't help thinking politics here and that was before I spied the small print. Situation summed up perfectly and conveyed beautifully. Time for someone to move on. Hope all is good with you dear poet. All good wishes. Loved the way you used our avian friends to depict real life.

Very imaginative and well rhymed offering. Has the sound of a modern version of Aesop's fables. The ending gives the impression there may be a sequel.

I must say... we have had a number of large fat Bluejays.
I never saw them that large. They look like Bandits
ready to steal whatever they want. I have posted a REWARD--
100 peanuts if you "Catch" the three thieves red-handed with
Cuffs ready. In your Debt: Pat

Every time I went to review this, I had a mental image of an angry, cotton candy headed oompa loompas face appearing on my screen, with klaxons, alarms and bells ringing. As the words FAKE NEWS, FAKE NEWS, appeared in 96 point blood red font.
My only hope is that come January, when he is drugged, hooded and bundled into the secret services trunk and thrown out at trumpet Tower. that they immediately build a wall around it, change his WiFi password and leave him there to fume at his own reflection 🤗

Can anyone in the USA (& most of the world) NOT read "presidential tug-of-war" in this tale? Your symbolism is delightful, playing blue against red, but I was picturing the blue jay being the bad guy, the recalcitrant one, the one deceptively trying to get back into a nest that isn't his anymore. This poem could be read with either position being red or blue & since I hate mouthy blue jays, I tend to be on the side of the "red-breasted" one (despite a deceptively republican hue) becuz he represents a leader with heart, to me (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
