BELONG

BELONG

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

Cycle of life, memories

"

BELONG

My spirit sinks, a fallen branch

my mother, whose smooth and moist womb

birthed me, all red and wrinkled

at once, cold, dry ashes

I weep for her clear green eyes

thick black hair

thin red lips

ivory complexion

lean. shapely legs

high heels, utopian garb

her laugh, cries, hysterics

bedtime stories, wet kisses on my cheeks

All crumpled in my mind, memory

alas, I can only dream

she floats among the clouds

reflections of the moon’s beam

she belongs to the cosmos

Goddess of the stars seeks her company

hence, I can only fancy that she is not alone

only with those who belong

Thank you for visiting and reviewing my poem.
Best, Betty
dearest Betty... I trust you have heard the Song
"Drops of Jupiter" by the Artist "Train". He
composed the Song for his Mother who passed.
Your Poem reminds me of my own Mother who passed and also of the song "Jupiter in her Hair" by the Artist "Train". gently, Pat

Thank you dearest Pat, appreciate it.
Take care, Yours,B.
I would call this a memoir rather than an elegy, for my impression is that the mother's death was not recent. Still, the sentiments expressed reflect those spoken at funerals when family members recall the finest qualities of the deceased. With all of the bitter poems directed at parents on this site, the speaker was fortunate indeed to have had such a mother.

This mummy sounds like a good time girl who lived life to the full.
I think you're right, she'll have plenty of company up above.

The sadness in this poem is heartfelt. The passing of a mother and longing for her care will forever touch the heart.

The words flow upon this page with grace and care.

A beautiful and loving tribute to motherhood. From inception to end. And all the captured memories in between. Thank you Betty for sharing this wonderful work. I also adored the image of the baby as well, so perfect.
