TUNES OF VENUS

TUNES OF VENUS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

delusional, imagination.

"

TUNES OF VENUS

My eyes adrift

My core conceals behind the moon

I glance at an exotic universe

Imagine me up here

Swaying to the tunes of Venus

Razzing to the drumbeat of Mars

Whoa I’m soaring

My heart beats to the sun’s fiery blast

Bubbles my blood to red hot

Pink horses gallop amid the blinking stars

Orange flames thrash out

How long will this delightful delusion linger?

Or will I soon return to my wretched life

When the high wears off

Drop to my knees in frustration

Mask behind dark shadows

Quiver and shake until my body quiets

Hang around, wait for more

Unless I get lucky

I may get kicked or killed

Before my next waste

My muse is silent

I ache, pain thrives

Scream further

Some kind dude rescues me

I don’t give a damn if it’s a rusty needle

"She never mentions the word addiction, in certain company, she'll tell you she's an orphan after you meet her family." from She Talks to Angels by Black Crowes

At first glance I thought this might be one of those women are from Venus, men are from Mars kind of deals.
But it took an unsuspected direction for me. It's a sad situation like so many sad situations in the world today and the problem just keeps growing. Over 90% of all heroin in the US comes in from Mexico. But we are told that open southern borders have no effect on the trafficking. Still, there's quite a lot of drugs and cash seized there by US Customs and Border Patrol. A sad ending to this topical piece. Great write. F.

Thank you so much for stopping by and a lovely review! Best, Betty
wow! what an amazing write! so much from watching a painting, you have quite the eye B. Addiction is such a serious problem and is heartbreaking and it makes us feel helpless when we want to help but they have to want to help themselves first, this I know from family history. Keep watching those paintings B. Love P.

such an intriguing painting, Betty...
and the poem is as well...
a rusty needle might be our last hope when it comes down to it.
bad trips remind me so much of the sixties.

GREAT! I have some more!
Some addicts will go to the brink of death to escape life while they're still here. I didn't expect that ending. Great poem, Betty.

as we remain concerned about the ongoing virus parade, we have mainly forgotten about the overdose deaths that continue to take place
I may be mistaken, but I believe there are as many or more deaths from overdoses

BTW. when does Betty Hermelee do a display of her art
Huh?

This has got to be one of the most darkest pieces of poetry I have read from you B. A very powerful piece that speaks of addiction in such a haunting way. It is a message and warning one will not soon forget. Excellent write B.

I thought I was reading a great sci-fi poem then Wham! Big surprise twist and ending. I love surprise in poetry and music.

I just went back and read it again and now I hurt for you. Which is just what poetry should do. I'll be thinking about this one for awhile.
