WHY? WE ASK

WHY? WE ASK

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

missing nutrients

"

WHY? WE ASK

Dark, ominous clouds billow

Opens the path for giant rain pellets

To plummet to earth, splash like a monster wave

This force of nature sanctions life, growth, nutrition below

The heartbeat of color to our neighbor earth

While clouds disunite

Splendid sun reveals its face

To grant greater sustenance to our planet

The same notions have a bearing

to human life to sustain

nutrients to preserve us

our adult food chain, so varied

binds us to be hardy mortals

Yet infants’ contrast

Their food chain is mother’s milk

Or baby formula

When there is a dire shortage of the latter

Many shall die

These precious creatures trust us

To fulfill them with life

Yet their nutrients are scarce

Why? We ask

One large production company is off line

Due to spoil formula, and must toss their waste

Others fail to increase at great speed

Alas, some may drift over in troubles seas

to assist in this unusual plight

That would most certainly be a welcome delight

You wrote another beautiful and progressive poem about a heartbreaking topic. I remember when this first started feeling so fearful of those poor children and those mothers, if they would be okay. I can’t imagine how hard that would be, how scary it would be. This is such a powerful piece that speaks up for the people who can’t. The flow of this is also makes it such a nice to read poem.
Thank you so much for sharing.

Thank you Ranger for stopping by and reviewing my poem.
Love ia Mothers Milk... sometimes there is not enough. Our Spirit is Sad and the World is Mad in so many Venues. We wander in the Fields of Clover and think about the Cows and what they eat and digest to give us Milk... as many Mothers are able to do. We ponder the changes to baby formula and wonder about "Progress". The Windmills of our Heart will nourish Ideas and we Pray night and day without ceasing. A lovely poem dear Betty with sadness and Tears. Tenderly, Pat

Thanks as always, a poetic response And a great need for our babies....
Truly, B.
Yeah it stinks. But unlike most, look deeper. The WIC program here has crowned the producers of formula. Then we have our silly wonderful non-elected bureaucrats shutting down said producers of formula. It's not conspiracy. It's a circle jerk idiocrasy. Done.

So let's examine your actual poem, which is what I love to do. I think you make your point like a bull entering the arena. Sharp on the contrast of storms and the force nature. The cadence is swift, urgent. It's the times we're in and the poem mirrors that. Throughout you're plucking the heart strings. We need this. It's our hearts that's going to solve the problem, not tyranny. I hate that we have to depend others though. Your last two lines lay that out. Thanks Betty. CD

Thank you for your very analytical review!

I didn't know about this specific problem, but experts are now saying we could be heading for a world food shortage, due in a large part to Russia's invasion of the Ukraine. The Ukraine is the biggest producer of grain in Europe, and exports are not getting out of the country.
A shortage of baby formula is a particularly distressing situation though. The problem needs sorting out, and quickly. Thanks for sharing this.

I had not heard about the baby formula situation, however it just seems to reflect the considerable number of wrong way issues that have plagued the planet, especially over the last few years
From baby formula to ever new viruses to disappearing species, there seems to be no end.

This is such a tragic predicament that our surveyors and those in charge have created and is a dereliction of duty to our most precious humans. Lives were lost and most fortunate that more were not lost but one is too many! Wonderful piece of writing and very important piece! Well done B! Love ya! P.

For a country that prides itself for being the richest in the world it goes to show all this wealth buys us nothing. Especially when things like this occur because of greed and companies all to willing to poison children instead of following regulations. These events are an indictment against crony capitalist who to choose profit over safety and our lives. It is shameful that it takes an event like this to reveal such a vile truth about our society. And a lack of empathy for some in our government for all children affected by this dilemma. A very eye opening piece B.
