CUPFUL OF ILLUSIONS

CUPFUL OF ILLUSIONS

A Poem by Betty Hermelee
"

A tryst to be deal with....

"

CUPFUL OF ILLUSIONS

Soon after an intense tryst

beneath the glimmer of a million stars

I blush as I amble back

to my cottage on the hill

the moon follows my shadow as I climb

I can nearly pinch it

the sparkle more fervent, overwhelming

a deep yellow, like the color of my house

Nonetheless, my mood alters to a blue hue

now that I relinquish my essence

from those cloud gray eyes

I ponder my affections unremittingly

shall I further persevere?

or anticipate his maneuver?

of this nearly faultless affair of the heart

That night I fantasize

his cup of illusions

concealed by ivory satin sheets

he whispers that he owns me

from my face to my toes

and traces each aspect

as he would a fragile blossom

I awaken and yearn to return

to my visions of sweet nectar

Yet my excitement fails to

sanction my fancies

with a commensurate pose

as we owned the night before

This poem is truly gorgeous, and may I say, I think some of your best work, especially with imagery and such. It’s hauntingly beautiful. ‘Nonetheless, my mood alters to a blue hue‘ this is a line I think so many can relate to. Mood changes really does feel like colors changing and when you fall into that blue hue, it also makes me think of pining, longing, thoughtfulness. There’s so many beautiful layers to this dreamy poem. Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful poem I could picture the protagonist walking back home as she pondered about her love!

Thanks for stopping to review my poem!
Love is a powerful force. Different people put their own spin on it, and some become too possessive. I love my wife, but I know I don't own her, any more than she could ever own me. Trust is a major part of love, I believe. If we don't have trust, then love itself is thrown into doubt. The chemistry of love is a mysterious thing in many ways!

We all have fantasies, Betty! No problem.
dearest Betty… you can have a Passion for Art and also Love can be “The Art of Love”. Your Feelings are a Mystery and a Secret Key to Love.

A tryst for some men not all, but many
turn into possession I've experienced
that for real myself.they want to own you; but the splendour enjoyed together is a beautiful and exiting experience when shared..like the way you wrote this one

Nice work dear Betty

Dear Betty, I have to say that the "he owns me" sent a little shudder down my spine. It sounds as though it was a beautiful experience, but those words made me feel he was going to turn into a control freak. Perfectly acceptable for you both to own the night together but that's where I left it.:) Always good to read you my friend. So well composed.

it is unfortunate that very special moment cannot be quite resurrected again.
perhaps that is what makes those moments that much more special and the real issue could be not appreciating how very precious they were in the first place.
Have you considered running this by Cool Joe?

You're very good.

You're always good, but, this is impressive.

You're a creepy human being. Only creeps write poetry like that.

Well, sometimes the morning after is not as sweet as the night before. A lot of romantic imagery describing that night, but I detect hesitation in the light of day. Perhaps that part about "he owns me" is starting to ring alarm bells. Maybe it should.
