Deeper Does The Heart Dwell

Deeper Does The Heart Dwell

A Poem by William Michael Reeves
"

My first sonnet. Accompanied by the poem I based it on.

"
In an ocean of love I've come to learn
Deeper than a pearl does the heart dwell
And the flames of passion boil and burn
Licking desires fire water can't quell.

The pressure of hope on a fragile shell
Pushing downward on a planet of sun
Causing moons of worship pulling tides swell
Weighing my all in floods of devotion.

Your pearl is a prize my heart has won
Currents of chance have brought us together
Layers of years trust builds wisdom begun
The bead grows strong swimming in each other.

At the surface of life roll waves of love
Lustrous beautiful gems shining above!

2021

Deeper does the heart dwell
Than a pearl in its fragile shell
And should fear's black tides swell
Love and patience will always gel
To bond and quickly quell
Despair from dreams which might have fell
And discover as joy wells
Our salvation from darkest hell.

Author's Note

William Michael Reeves
The poem was for a friend who asked me to write one for his girlfriend (who used to be mine). I wrote each line on a separate piece of paper and made him arrange it. I wasn't going to post it thinking it was silly but liked the idea.

I chose to write a Spenserian Sonnet. What's her name(Google) told me it had the more challenging rhyme scheme. ABAB BCBC CDCD EE. 10 syllables per line. Read close as Billigami says. You'll see all the clues.

Two fine poems here Bill, though the sonnet is my favourite. Not easy to tackle in my opinion. You have to get the drum beat right. You do that here. Inspiring writing. Well done.

Congrats on this sonnet William. They're not easy to write at all, especially remaining true to the rule scheme that they have. I have the utmost respect for those who accomplish this effort. Wonderful work my friend.
