Late Night Requiem

Late Night Requiem

A Poem by Blackcatattack
"

a love song for troubled teenagers and also sort of a prayer.

"

There was an ancient word that formed the world

and everything leads back to it.

A cry inside the darkness, a hum inside your head.

It lingers in the shadows and it sleeps in your bed.

I wander through empty halls

in the dead of night to calm myself

'cause this is the dawning of a storm

and it feels close to Hell.

I hate this distance.

I hate the sound of silence when I need an answer.

When all that's left to do

is wait until the final hour.

So sick of questions running

through my head insensitive to my other half

that's wanting, desperately wanting

to go back.

'Cause I saw you standing on a bridge

and thought it was beautiful.

I never dance and I never cry,

I write my life away, only things I'd never say.

And I never asked for the world

but here it is,

it's staring me in the face.

I thought I saw it in you

when the lights went out.

I thought I saw it in you,

in silence, in sunlight.

This is a late night requiem

for when all the world's asleep.

'Cause I never dance and I never cry.

We'll lose our innocence

before we say goodbye.

There's something hinted at in temples,

paper and stone across the world;

a sound that rings disaster, a cry the war is over.

A hole that wells up in your chest, a joy to being sober.

I don't want to stumble through hallways

asking what's the point of anything.

'Cause this is he calm before the storm

that washes over everything.

I need a choice,

I need the chance to prove I'm worth my life.

Are angels watching, do they laugh

as we try to figure them out?

So free and still so restless,

wanting closer to this energy,

it's pulsing, breaking through to me.

(who has to know you?)

It crawls back like a ghost

in dirt from centuries ago.

(who wants to know?)

There's something started off as a prayer

(who cares to know you?)

and got lost in the light show.

(are you lost and are you gonna let it show?)

And I thought I saw it in you

when you were standing on a bridge and it was beautiful.

I thought I saw it in you,

in silence, in sunlight.

This is a late night requiem

when all the world's asleep.

'Cause I never dance and I never dry.

We'll lose our innocence

if we want to be alive.

An ancient word that formed the world

and everything leads back to it.

A cry inside the darkness, a hum inside your head.

It lingers in the shadows and it sleeps in your bed.

I wander through empty halls

in the dead of night to calm myself.

This is the dawning of the storm

and it feels so close to hell.

I thought I found it in you

when you were standing on the edge and it was beautiful.

I thought I saw it in you,

in silence, in sunlight.

This is a late night requiem

for when all the world's asleep.

'Cause I never dance and I never cry.
