A Fear of the Unknown

A Fear of the Unknown

A Poem by Lovecraft
"

Fear of how the universe really is.

"
A Fear of the Unknown, vast cosmos,
Thronged by eldritch entities of ungodly power,
With the ability to destroy and slaughter
The planet.

They watch us from the depths of space, uncaring
And almost never truly notice us,
Save for when they rarely do.

From the stars they arrive, ravenous,
Craving murder and destruction as
Its own reward.

These "Beings" urge madness ever forward,
Terrifying to behold,
Slaughtering the world.

To them, the Human race are but ants,
To be toyed and killed accordingly.

We can do nothing but suffer an ignominious end.

Author's Note

Lovecraft
This is a poem based on the work of H.P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos. I think it's an okay piece, but I'm not quite sure how this will be received. :P

Wrote it in ten minutes or so, eh.

Even though i haven't read H.P.L i like this poem..... I think we could destroy ourselves the same way ...we don't even have to travel outside the cosmos...thats what came to mind as i was reading it.

the last few lines really symbolise how insignificant the human race is, despite the superiority they feel they have - interesting read

You described the Beings in such vivid detail. You made a perfect poem in ten minutes. I've read five of H.P Lovecraft stories and by God do they paint a picture and make me feel deeply.
