Tossed

Tossed

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield

I lied when I told you
How much I wanted to be
Something that you see as wonderful
I lied when I told you
How I needed to be
The one at your side
Sorry baby, I lied

All those expressions of love
False trails to my heart
The love I gave, I said, I implied
All just something to fool you
Something to bide my time
Something to tide me over
Until the next one comes along
Just anyone but you

My darling dear, you were the April fool
I never felt a pull, a desire
Nothing of you lit a fire in my soul
If I had my choice, my pick
You wouldn't be the one I'd want to hold
Just accept that none of this was true
Your devotion to me is not what I feel for you

All these things you told me
In your sweet and sly way
When you tossed me aside that cold day
I never knew what went wrong
What could be our Achilles heel
Who is the fool, was it ever real
Am I less for everything I ever felt
Or perhaps just wiser to the world
Knowing that this was a mere stop
Before I find the true half of my soul
