Wipe Away Tears

Wipe Away Tears

Doing a friend a favor...

Wipe Away Tears

You cry the tears of anger from being told,
The man at your side lacks interest behold.
He uses your mind to make you feel cheap,
To get you to perform after you sit and weep.

The games he plays twisting your mind,
While your feelings do sit well in behind.
He doesn't see that you're more than a toy,
Your caring like a mother for her lil boy.

I did something meant out of being me,
So you will see the better of a reality.
I see your care and understanding true,
I wiped away tears in friendship for you.

I don't want a thing in return given back,
For my gesture was meant not as an attack.
Just be you and smile that you have a friend,
That's showing concern by flowers in mend.

Back in the days when I could conjure up the tolerance to sit by while a friend was being regularly dissed & abused by someone he/she adored, I remember how much of the time I wished I could change the way this person was seeing his/her situation. I was part of friend groups that would rally to help women move away from abusive a******s, but in every case, she moved back in within weeks. The thing I find admirable about your poem is that this narrator is NOT trying to change the other person's approach, but just trying to be there, and even in this, there's that defensive edge that creeps in becuz a battered person cannot fathom that such a friend isn't trying to tell him/her how to live life. You nail home some pertinent points (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
