City of the Dead

City of the Dead

A Story by Hayllie

I stood to close, got to enraptured by the magic of the unknown.
It's like a poison in my head, I can feel it in my veins.

Time is running out.

It fills my veins like an unwanted visitor. Burning my skin,
wiping away my soul, My heart turning to blood.

I close my eyes and see him there. The once magic I was so enchanted.
Now stood the demon in disguise, killing me from within.

The darkness has settled in. Nothing will ever be the same.
I stand at the gate, my fear slowly fading at my new home.

My eyes, burn red with the intensity of a thousand lost souls before me.
I stand as a new soldier of the dark.
I stand at the gates.
The sign resonating deep within me, as something new stirs.
Something dark.

The city of the dead!

Strong and powerful words shared dear Hayllie.
"The darkness has settled in. Nothing will ever be the same.
I stand at the gate, my fear slowly fading at my new home."
I went to dead cities. The guard do not guard at nights. The dead still scream. This could be a good opening for a epic tale. Thank you for sharing the amazing story.

You did well dear Hayllie and you are welcome.
I like what you have here. I adore this song, I too found it to be so hauntingly enchanting. I think it would be great to see a story come to life from these beginnings. It always made me think of someone being bitten by a vampire or some kind of monster, and suffering through the change.

The song is beautifully done despite the auto-tune which I'm not a fan of.

I'm glad it inspired you to write this poem. It too has a haunting quality to it. As though the speaker has met her fate and understands she must live a different life.

(I stood too close, not to close). :)
