3.15 AM (Earth Time)

3.15 AM (Earth Time)

A Poem by Brett Hernan
"

He, she, they... (repeat then collapse).

"

He was possessed of a gland in the back of his head
which released a synthetic endorphin-like substance.
She wasn't there anymore.
They couldn't agree on anything.
He walked over the edge and swallowed a library.
She wanted a cat composed of dust.
They took it upon themselves to set the clocks back an hour throughout the house.
He made the telephone call, despite the rain.
She had joined in with them by then.
They knew exactly what the frequency would be.
He hid it there safely, waiting for the next lunar cycle to begin.
She took on the form of a genetically engineered squid.
They made sure the recording was ready to play inside the abandoned warehouse.
A strange event occurred at 3.15 AM Earth time with an unexpected interruption.
The plan had changed.
She took note.
He was oblivious.
They saw it from opposing perspectives.
A paper napkin contained the diagrams.
Although she was next, things changed.
He walked over the edge.
She wanted a cat.
She wasn't there anymore.
They couldn't agree on anything.
Both of them knew.
They'd never see him again.
