WHAT ARE THESE FACES I SEE?

WHAT ARE THESE FACES I SEE?

A Poem by Brian Kraklau

faces on the wall

a progression of time

older than my only bottle of wine

faces that grimace

though with swift bump

they would all fall away

looking into the mirror

these faces

all different people

what they are to me

nothing except a slammed door

born to a time unknown

so thrown in the turmoil of its own poison

a stylistic sensation of sexual pleasure

a seed that has been set loose

a thorny flower grown

these people in wasted moments

sitting the fight out on the side bar

leaning in for when the tides are well

hanging tight to their sacred trinkets

water splashed in these eyes

earth washed away

broken ties

burnt bridges

these are mere goodbyes

tonight the wind cries

the earth rolls away

while I sit

while I wait

with clear thoughts in my eyes

looking into the mirror

these faces

all different people

none of them are me

anymore

brings to mind someone who is experiencing growing pains, a time of letting go of the past and past grievances. it's a coming of age in any time in someone's life and evolving from those personas into the new. great poem.

I was very impressed with this. You use great word choices (and also have some nice uses of alliteration!) We can all interpret this poem in our own way and see (and feel) what it means to us individually, making it all the more of a great read. For me, it was like that moment where time stands still and you begin to question yourself and the people around you; searching for who you really are as a person. Really nice writing!

oh wow...this says so much! from what I understand, we are, we were different masks in the present, past...but a clear head makes us realize we are tired of wearing those facets any more...or your write may be just about a confusion- who are we? or a sudden realization- we are none we thought ourselves to be...whatever you meant, it was pleasant to the ears :)
"looking into the mirror
these faces
all different people
none of them are me
anymore"....really I couldn't have understood what you wanted to say without these last lines...great write!

Some, like the guy below, are blessed to know who they are each day. Others must encounter themselves anew every time they pause. Constantly changing, challenged, growing. We must be willing to let who we were, die, before we start on the next part of our journeys. This is true at each crossroads. Take heart... it doesn't get easier, but you DO get more used to it.

Well before I forget, happy birthday coming soon. When I look in the mirror I see the same face that I have seen over all these years, only a little older each day. Although the face has changed in many ways affected by the events in my life, in the end, it is still the same face.
