Let the Walls Speak

Let the Walls Speak

A Poem by Brighid an Lasair
"

I previously frequented a small coffee house that encouraged bathroom graffiti, great people, great coffee and an insanely supportive creative vibe, it saddens me that my second home is no more.

"

I’ve been bringing new comers here for years-
Inviting them to the place where I spent many nights-
And many days-
Finding my place among the other voices-
Among the artists and activists-
All trying to grow into something-
To make something of themselves-
Debating over cups of coffee-
Painting pages of notebooks with words-
That I hope to someday read-
Writing tales of their days here on the walls-
It’s been going on for years-

These walls tell the stories of those that came before us-
Of those that have moved on-
And have left a piece of themselves here-
So that you and I might follow after them-
Or take a piece of them with us-
As we wander the roads of our own journeys-
They tell their stories to those that they may never meet-
Pass on what they have learned-
Or what they hope to share-
To spread-
Wherever their future may take them-

I’ve done the same-
My story is on the loft bathroom wall-
Center stall-
Back of the door-
For all to see-
Yeah, you can read me-
But the walls-
They speak of others-
They tell their stories along with mine-
And this is where we find-
A little of ourselves meandering into those around us-

And this is how it will be-
These walls will speak our lives-
Until someone comes to paint them over-
And pretend-
These walls have never spoken-
But below the fresh paint-
My story echoes with the others-
Waiting for someone to peel away the layers-
And brew coffee like they used to-
We’re momentarily hidden-
Placed on pause"
Someday-
They’ll find our stories-
And our walls will speak again.

Thanks a lot for the review. Appreciate it. As for this piece, this is exactly what I would write about. Being an historian, I look at details as being sources of peoples collective conscious. Walls can tell you a lot about everything. This is really good. Loved it.

These walls are graffitied with highs and lows...
Every thought every vision and lessons to be
learned with wisdom, all due to these walls..
A very intelligent write..
