What Lies Beneath

What Lies Beneath

A Poem by *~*Butterfly Kisses*~*

What lies beneath the surface?

Of a decent human being

Living out their days,

Waiting for an apocalypse

An end to all mankind.

Through glowing eyes of red,

Demons lurk inside their selves.

Never knowing which way to turn

Which direction to take,

When they linger inside

The darkest of hearts.

Like a cobra they wait for their prey

Before they finally attack,

Lay paralyzed in your silence

Unable to speak, but yet remaining calm.

Hearts are the key to an unlocked door,

Sensitive but do most stay true?

Strong values and morals they have lived in

Since merely a small child,

Guided by guardians to do right.

I have seen the evil side of a man,

Creating destruction in the lives of another

Never seeing the dark side,

Then being released to another world.

A new world.

The bowels of hell, and demons of torment.

Can it be true that both demons and angels,

Living among us, reincarnated from their time.

Ready to fight the battle between good and evil.

Maybe the war has already begun…

We fight it almost every day,

The demons of our own souls

Blood spilling wars and chaos

While trying to keep the good and the beautiful

In a world in desperate need.

So what lies beneath the surface?

Of a decent human being

Living out their days,

Waiting for an apocalypse

An end to all mankind.

I don't know. I believe man's death won't be easy. Nature gifts are needed for us to live. Food, water and air may be the real doom for man greed. Many good people are trying to change the direction of man. One person with strength can create a wave for peace and end of violence. I hope the apocalypse don't come. I have child and grandchild who need a place to grow and find happiness. Thank you for a excellent poem. Made me think.

Long, but not drawn out. I like the intenseness, and I really like it.

I love this poem. You illustrate a great picture that can easily be seen by the reader. This is the type of literature that will keep the reader thinking even after they close the page. A remarkable read.

Could have been better said in fewer words.

I like this poem! It sort of reminds me of the Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde story and the moral in it. How we have to fight between the good and evil in us. Nice work!!!

much enjoyable. Thank you.

What lies beneath a decent human being. Is precisely that... I believe by nature we love and light.. it is only the corruption of our experiences that change this.

This really is good... i do not have much view on when humans will become extinct though i am sure we are going to kill ourselves, we take advantage of mother nature and she will take back her land one day. Very interesting, thank you :)

You really pulled me into imagining this as a true possibility... sucking the reader into your world is the gift of poetry. great piece!
