WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?

A Poem by CAPOLAVORO
"

This is something for the perpetrators side.

"
What are you looking at?
You want to see how I hit this brat?
You see he behaves like a wild pig
Can't sit and always say I want to pee
Crying all the time
Sayin'  I wan't this and that mommy
Crazy
I am definitely gettin' dizzy
No food to eat and no money on my pocket
How could he not understand
Damn
This child is a headache
I start pinching him and kicking
Watch now as I hit him with a stick
Now he's cryin'
Noise noise noise
Do me a favor stop yelling
Telling
It's not my right to hit my child
Who then would discipline him?
Feeling
Numbness, Senseless, Frozen
all the doors and windows are locked
so no one could see the torture
He's shouting
Slap hit
Slap hit
That is what I do to him
When I'm hungry and he's cryin'
You lemme see child abuse
Now I let you see poverty
Don't just stare at me
You are of no use!

What are you looking at?
You want to see how I molest a daughter?
You see she behaved like a w***e
Wearing revealing clothes to me
Lookin' good in my eyes
Sayin' thank you for being a good father daddy
Craving
Selling drugs is the only way for living
No food to eat and no money on my pocket
How could I resist this feeling
Damn
This life is a mess
I started usin' killin' and fighting
Go home hit my daughter
found her crying
Sexin'
Keep on doing the same thing to her
over and over again
Noise noise noise
Do me a favor stop yelling
Telling
It's not my right to sexually abused my child
Who then would use her?
Feeling
Numbness, Senseless, Frozen
all the doors and windows are locked
so no one could see the torture
She's shouting
Slap hit
Slap hit
That is what I do to her
When I use drugs and she's cryin'
You lemme see sexual abuse
Now I let you see poverty
Don't just stare at me
You are of no use!

Author's Note

CAPOLAVORO
I just want you to understand that if we really do want to help someone from abuse we need not to only stare. Others want to end abuse but what they do is just stare. Not really helping. File a case, refer the child to a child caring institution, report the abuse, file a blotter report to the police, be an instrument for awareness, shout if you have to, help people in poverty. DO SOMETHING.

This is a very powerful message, but I'm not sure it comes across as being very sympathetic to either side of such abuse situations. This isn't a drawback, becuz your message is still very thought-provoking & meaningful . . . not condemning, but just not sympathetic either. Just laying it out there as it can sometimes be, both sides looking ugly & inconceivable, not whitewashing anything. I like the jagged way you spit out the various words & short phrases with dynamic verbs & feelings, it gets across your sensations of a person so overwhelmed or frustrated that they're sputtering out their venom or hopelessness. All that construction & word choice stuff is so well done here to show instead of tell. This is the poster child for show instead of tell. I'm a child of many years of constant abuse, both sexual & violence, so I can say that I embrace all aspects of the childhood that formed me into who I am. This should be accepted by all & your poem definitely gets this across strongly (((HUGS)))

Very true! It always is
The word choice here is quite raw, Miss Cap, between the pissing and craving... Selling drugs in torture... Heh, you really brought a daring subject to bear with finesse and aptitude... Daringly penned...

It's confidential. :)
A recurrent theme I feel. One in which you have invested emotion. You manage to capture some of the emotion and social issues without making the reader feel sympathy for the perpetrator. And poverty is no excuse for either act. Neither is child abuse, be it sexual or otherwise, the sole domain of the poor.
