Ms. Nicol

Ms. Nicol

A Poem by Cah

I stepped pretty to your tune, Ms. Nicol.
Though lack of penny-whistle

or rosened bow made it hard

to know where foot should fall.

Tenative, I toe-tapped to heart tattoo.
Moved in time to what, to my mind,

     seemed the grace you showed
          a-crossing floor.
First a waltz,
                 spiraling across the room.
Then a cheeky tango
         to
     and
         fro.
Oi! A joyous pogo bouncing ,

     bound to shame filled secrets
          turned diamond healed glitter
               in the hop's shifting glow.

I followed your lead

     for no other partner
          answered my need or, indeed,

               could heed the seeded bass.
Yet soon, just as I trusted the sway,
you                                   turned.
you                                   moved

                    away.
Calling time.
Calling it a day.
A merry dance, you called this romance,
Meaning(ful)less....

I stepped so pretty to your tune, Ms. Nicol
          Ms. Dime.
          Ms. Petty

change.

Cah
To clarify pronunciation, the surname "Nicol" is pronounced closer to "nickel" and not like "Nichol".
