A Poem by Camena cygni

maybe you were my first love.

Not Alex.

Not Kevin.

That would make sense.

It would explain

the months I wasted over you,

the songs, the poems,

the laughs,

the tears,

the texts.

The breaking,

and slow mending,

of my heart.

And now the rebreaking.

Well, thank you.

Thank you for putting

above me.

Thank you for giving me

yet another

girl to be jealous of.

Thank you

for making me

every time I see you.

Thanks for everything.

Because if I'm being

truly honest with myself,

I am still in love with you.

And you

loved me.

Very emotional piece.

I think this is well executed, I like the breakup of lines and rhythm, however I feel stunted in my appreciation as it does not evoke a reaction of any substance. I do not believe it is because it is a poor effort, but rather that I lack a required empathy with the protagonist.

OMG- Stop giving me feelings :'(.
I can relate to this. And its simplicity is beautiful. Its stark, and obvious, and raw- very much like your heart.

Not too bad.
I'm personally not a fan of this kind of subject matter because I find it overdone and not very creative. (Sort of something a typical teenager would write in a diary. I know I have, and still do), but if you could come up with a different and unique way of writing and expressing your emotions that would make your poetry much better.
Keep writing :)

The Mute Swan is said to be silent its entire life until the moment before its death, in which it sings a single beautiful song. These are my songs; these are my verses. more..
