Purgatory

Purgatory

A Poem by Carew

Where are we?

This can’t be heaven,

And it’s not hell.

Somewhere in the middle?

The cries deafen,

But no ringing of bells.

Nothing makes sense with the powers that be.

There is too much anguish and pain.

Anger and hate.

This place is a struggle,

Filled with trouble.

It has the power to devastate.

Everything can’t be in vain.

But there is more good.

Friendship and happiness.

Joy and love.

Almost effortless.

Is there power above?

Good and evil exists,

And we must persist and resist.

If our goal is heaven,

But tempted by hell,

I have one question.

Where the f**k are we?
