food evokes memories for me too particularly of the people I have lost over the years when I am sad and miss my grandmother I always make a dish that she used to make and I get comfort in the tastes and smell:) as far as spice combinations I think Jerk spices are my favorite:) a very tasty poem Carola!

yes i love my spices, though i think many people use them very hesitantly, & don't experiment enough.
is your cafe still going with your during our troubled times ? i seem to vaguely remember a photo of the cafe with photos of people on the chairs, which i thought was a fun idea.

Although I'm a bit of a "foody" who loves to cook, you've sure got me beat in the spice department. Indeed, you've kindled my curiosity. Favorite spices? I think I like them all--even those I'm not familiar with. (Oh, but garlic! I do love that!)

Carola, this is one of your best! Your enthusiasm is spilling over, leaving specks & seeds all over the place! I love the first & last parts which convey your zest for zest, but my eyes glazed over thru the list of spices. I think that list might be more compelling if we got a more personalized peek at what each spice means to you, like some relative's kitchen or a holiday tradition or a certain dish or regional cooking . . . but just the appearance of spices is too dry & boring for my taste. But still, I bet there are many people who would enjoy this poem in its entirety! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

hi margie, thanks for reading & reviewing, in my opinion my best work is my 'shadow my travelling companion'.
yes the spice list is really supposed to be an eye-opening enticement for people who only use salt & pepper to try herbs & spices.
i take your point of making the list a more personal peek, but that's a whole lot of thinking & extra writing work that i can't be bothered with right at the moment. but i'll keep it on my to do list.

yes i suspect this poem will mean more to the average women who likes /does her own cooking than most men (not including professional chefs/cooks who definitely know more than me.)
but i know what i like & i do love experimenting with herbs & spices.
