I envy you for having such fabulous opportunities for bird watching. I've looked at some of your photos and have been mightily impressed by all those colorful creatures. We have robins, cardinals, blue jays and hummingbirds, but nothing to compete with your Ms. Rainbow.

hope it was a surprise discovering towards the end I was writing about a rainbow lorikeet.
i called the bird a 'she' but we don't really know what it is.
i haven't seen rainbow now in a year & half, I hope he/she has just moved on & nothing has bad has happened.

What a beautiful bird you have visiting you carola. Wonderful colours. I am fond myself of our avian friends, but our visitors are not nearly as colourful as the lorikeet. We have mainly robins magpies, blue tits and blackbirds in our area. I enjoyed your poem. Thank you.

I love long rambling storytelling poems & this is one of the best I've read from you. You take us thru interesting scenes & details that appeal to the senses. After seeing your photo, tho, I would say your 6th couplet does not do justice to the actual amount of touch here. This verse sounds as if she's only at the "approaching" stage, whereas your picture shows full-on affection. I think you could pump this verse up a bit to show that with more feeling. It must be a total freakin' thrill to touch a wild animal like that! That's the intensity I'd like to feel from your words, too! I realize you're much more stately & reserved than I am, but this is just a nudge into my realm of embellishment! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

I had never heard of a Lorikeet so I looked it up and could see why it deserved its very own poem.
Grossbeaks are about as close to that coloring as we ever get, although there is a red-headed woodpecker about, raiding our hummingbird feeders (?) which is quite colorful.
