StarstuffA Poem by Casey TruaxI am not a flock of birds Nor any bird upon the wing. I am the undulating form Its legions, leaving and returning, Still maintain. I am not the sand upon the shore Nor silken cape with foaming crest. I am the message tides erase, The wave that lifts new waters And gives them ancient form. I am not the plucked nor trembled string, Nor the players, nor their scores, Nor conductor with baton: I am the symphony That pulses in your ears. From strawberries to the stars Run all the marvels I shall know, And whence I came and whither I shall go Mean not so much As whether I shall do.
