WE THRIVE IN THE CRUSHING

WE THRIVE IN THE CRUSHING

A Poem by Cassie

The porter

Remakes and makes the pot

Until his intention is achieved

Sometimes the porter gets satisfied

Other times he doesn’t

When the pot gets a crack

The porter smooth-ens it

Or remakes the whole pot

According to his specs

The remaking isn’t nice

I imagine how the pot feels

Being crushed again and again

Then being smoothed

And worse of

Taken to the fire

The crushing

The remaking

The smoothing

The drying in the fire is painful to the pot

I imagine

When a chick is hatching out

It crushes the shell of the egg to come out

I imagine it must be painful for the egg

A seedling

Before it sprouts out

It must burst out of its shell

For the seed to grow

And become a fruit

Or something of substance

I imagine the crushing must be painful for the seedling

So understand this

It is in the

Dirt

In the fire

In the crushing

That we thrive

My least favorite spiritual inclination is when people either question or blame God becuz they are not happy with events unfolding in their lives. I can't help but to see this as a brilliant analogy to shut up this dumb questioning & just help us start surrendering to what happens in life, all of which is meant to teach us, to tenderize us, to break us out of our self-absorbed, petty way of seeing. I love how you kinda go "on & on" about the crushing & pounding, starting over, re-molding, over & over, that aspect of your poem stands out as being very true to life. Just when we think we have become better human beings, something happens to show us we still have a long ways to go! This is one of your best poems (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thats true, there are those days, some days are good some are painful but God is good
This is a a very clever concept. I love the animation of the seemingly unanimated and the addition of feeling and emotion. Makes me not want to crack and cook an egg...lol, or walk on a sidewalk. This just feels right, loved it!
