Maybe Bukowski?

Maybe Bukowski?

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Years ago. I met Bukowski in California. I didn't know who he was, at the time. He read my work and he told me. Good stuff and we talked. Maybe the California coastline I need today.

"

Maybe Bukowski?

The silence poet read his words on the first Tuesday night of each month.

Otherwise his voice is quiet,

he prefer the Salinger way over Hemingway loudness.

He wants to be Bukowski,

be brave and write gritty and dirty poetry.

He knows,

people fear the truth.

He told the listeners on Tuesday night,

most of us love the dirt more than the sweetness.

Easy to digest.

Once he was called the dark poet of Monterey and

now he the old poet of the Lake St. Clair.

He wonder why did Hemingway hide at the end of his life?

Did his own words kill him?

Salinger tried to kill himself a few times.

Few know, he was a man of war.

He saw the blood, he touched the blood and he never was right.

Maybe I will follow the Bukowski path.

Just wait for death and write.

This is just my opinion but I always felt Chucks grit was nothing less than beautiful for the foundation of his writes were always honest he was a warrior personality and couldn’t help but be that way in his words As he was in life. I know the place were he danced and still to this day miss that darkness the stale beer and overflowing ashtrays of slow death it was a nice place to be removed from the torrents of empathy in a constant state of numb Where bottom meant you were never disappointed or surprised oh for that temptation! If I had ever sat with him at a bar I’m sure he would tell me to Put the pen down and take up a different line of work:) lol

We'd all like to show beauty and inspiration to the world in our writing. I think right now, in this convulsive moment, we poets must all feel a need to be Bukowski. This moment in our country is pressing upon us all -- as a nation, we must evolve or be crushed.

dearest John... every morning I gather my senses and smell the Roses which I gather in
my yard from a vintage Rose bush I planted three years ago.. it grows beside an old fence
where birds chirp lullabies... as we chirp our way through our silver and golden years. Life is precious and to be cherished. tenderly, Pat

I love this poem with such a fine resolve. I'd rather be that dog-eared, worn, tattered book with unconventional lines than be a nice one suddenly ended. I'd love to wait for death and write. SUperbly stated dear sir.

Me too sir and you are very welcome.
i think you follow your own path and use your voice as wisely as your pen, knowing what measures are called for. We do tend to gravitate to the gritty more and I think it's because it feels more sincere.
I can sugar coat things a thousand ways to make believe but pain and dirt are usually things people want to hide like dirty laundry. So when someone airs it we hover and gawk.
