Lest we forgot

Lest we forgot

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Good song and some words.

"

                   Lest we forgot

My old bones are sore, my eyes are weaker and the whiskey taste harder tonight. I ain't searching for Jesus, I ain't searching for the Devil. I have found both and I learn. I am standing alone and every decision I made, every deed I did. I did, because I wanted to.

Today last year man sit alone. Looking at Lake St. Clair and he told the lake. Thank you for leading me home. I am 10 miles from my grandmother old house and I did okay. I have four strong children, five grandchildren and I pray one day. I can be with my dear grandmother and she will tell me. Baby, Johnnie. You did okay.

I have forgotten more than I can remember. I look at old photos and I know, I was blessed with the hell-bound road leading me to a peaceful place. War taught me. Men are the same. Just fighting for old men who don't give a dime about us. Children are our wealth.

Real wealth is love near, the laughter of children and long vacations. I ain't searching for forgiveness. I made my bed and I will live in the bed I made for me. Today I obey my grandfather wisdom. He told me often. Speak less, listen more. Never leave with negative words or anger. All of us need a kind voice and place to feel safe. Don't be the teacher, be the friend.

I ain't looking for Jesus, I ain't looking for the Devil. I am just doing my best to be kinder, be easy on the people who need a kind word. Love, my friend. Easy to give and we can save another. Thank you for reading my friends.

Reflections on life, never really sure if the good outweighs the bad.
It's pretty difficult to tell kids to get out there and make mistakes, just don't follow my example whilst you're doing it. We pass the baton down the way and hope for the best.
Today's kids look pretty savvy, though, sure they'll find a way through this broken world we live in.

I like so much the wisdom in this reflective poem that honors the elders, cherishes love, values children and speaks out loudly about war and its misfortunes. You have achieved a lot in life and you should be proud.

You are so right sir. You are welcome muchly.
Yes, we all have to learn to give kindness and love. So much introspection and reflection in this one, John. Our elders can teach us so much and I feel certain your grandmother will one day be able to tell you how well you did. The words in this one are soft and gentle and filled with wisdom. Lydi**

This is a poem constituted by some lovely kind lines... Yes, we should be kinder , more apolitical and friendly. We need no preacher but a friend who can stand by us when in need. Your grandfather taught you the right life lessons and you obeyed it thoroughly, your poem is a reflection for that. A gentle but lovely poem it is, thank you for sharing

My pleasure .
This is a wonderful life philosophy articulated very well on the page. I love that font here.....gives the piece a feel of being scratched from the soul by pencil on paper...making it more authentic. You have lived and learned, waged your wars and found your peace and now here you are sharing your knowledge with us all. "Real wealth is love near, the laughter of children and long vacations...." such fine wisdom so simply expressed. I, myself, could very much use a long vacation! I enjoyed this poem very much. 💛

This entire piece is so powerful, only growing from beginning to end. Your grandfather seemed to be very wise and kind, as Chris said. I can feel so much love and passion going into this piece, and it feels like one of those nights you just go through your whole life in your mind. The good and the bad. Thank you for sharing such a deep, powerful piece!

Thank you my dear friend. We are what we are taught and what we had learned.
"I am just doing my best to be kinder, be easy on the people who need a kind word." No truer words can be spoken as these. War is futile, but this remains a battle we all face from time to time. Thank you for this wonderful work!

Thank you dear Hayllie. If we accept war as norm. Wars will never end.
