Dearest Eleanor

Dearest Eleanor

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

September poetry number ten.

"

Dearest Eleanor...

We were Summer lovers and we tried to capture the sun.

The sun sun-kissed our skin and we loved the sea.

We loved hot coffee and old books.

We never said a proper goodbye,

I left you on chilly September morning to fight some useless war.

I escape quietly in the early morning and I left you a note.

“Dearest Eleanor,

I love you, I love you.

You are my Big Sur blessing.

Your voice, kind and sweet, like the whispering sounds of the Pacific.

I will remember you and please remember me.

I will return and I pray.

My sweet muse. Please allow me into your heart again.

I know you hate goodbyes and I will leave you with my final words.

Until we meet again, my love.

You will be my first thoughts in the morning and

you will be in my sweets dreams when I find sleep in the night.”

"Dearest Eleanor" and Cohen's poem shine light on to a place in time...when batons collided with warrior aged skulls ringing the absurdity of war...a time when romantic love was impetuous and short lived...when dysentery jungle death was a post mark away...

Dear Coyote, goodbyes are painful, this one especially so. Leaving for a war zone and not knowing whether there will be any reunion cuts to the quick. Moving poetry my friend.

Thank you dear Chris for reading and the comment. I do appreciate. No-one like the word. Goodbye.
A moving farewell. Made me think of all the women whose soldiers went to war and never returned.

"You are my Big Sur blessing" ... a lot in that line for me sir! how we do reminisce and remember past loves, joys and pains ... perfect tune for your poem John ... I think of all the young men who, like you, left for Viet Nam without any proper goodbyes ... without a proper home coming .. still an open wound says i .. the tragedy of it all even deeper for those who did not return ... their memories now in the hearts and minds who remain ... love you stuff sir ... this moves me a lot ... thanks for sharing!

Us soldier always leaving my friend. Thank you for reading and the comment.
dear John... I was once on the Pacific Coast where waves of
contentment rolled over the Sea... remembering the sweetness of Love.
Your poetry is like a Seagull who flies above with sighs of soft sensuous cries.
