Flesh and bones

Flesh and bones

A Poem by Coyote Poetry
"

Life is to be lived. Need to celebrate being alive.

"

          Flesh and bones

(Need a positive poem. Life is to be celebrated. Each day is a gift.)

I fell from the top of the mountain.

I stood with so many victories.

I realized too late.
They don't mean too much.

Beautiful young woman sitting between my legs.

She looked up.
Told me, "It don't matter anyway.

We are only flesh and bones."

I sat by the ocean.

Watching the her  power and  beauty.

The ocean is heartless.

So dangerous and tempting.

Woman with sad eyes sat with me.

She wished she was a better person.

I told her.

We are but flesh and bones.

In time we will fade away to distance memories.

I gave everything away.

I roamed with the poets and the musicians.

We sat late into the night together on lonely Monterey beaches.

Drinking and talking of things that was and were to be.

The singer sang a love song.

When he is done.

He told me.
" Love doesn't really mean too much.

We are but flesh and bones."

Just here awhile to try to celebrate being alive.

We danced and ran the lonely beaches.

We said a prayer to our God.
For one more day to be alive and free.

For we are but flesh and bones.

Beautiful poem! So sorry about the fate of two of your brothers. Heartfelt and so true. 'for we are but flesh and bones' this line creates a wonderful effect. I must thank you for that beautifully mesmerising piece of poetry. Hats off to you Coyote and thanks for the two reviews!

Coyote Poetry is not only one of the best reviewers,he writes excellent poetry. What I like is the honest stories he tells, the way he evokes lyrical power with simple but careful imagery.Love the expression.... lonely Monterey beaches.Maybe I heard too much Chuck Berry long ago,but American place names are somehow magical.Good work.

The message is to "live life to the fullest"...because we're here for only alittle while.
I love the journey you took me on when reading this... Roaming with poets and musicians...drinking, talking and listening to a song. Lovely write!

I remember once watching Muhammad Ali as he rooted through his barn and then he overturned a board with his championship belts attached. And he told the interviewer ."See it don't mean a thing"The blood coursing through our veins the humanity are all we truly can say we have and share

An excellent poem. It really grew on me. and the theme: "It don't matter anyway.
We are only flesh and bones." is wonderful. You captured a feeling that I experience all the time. Wonderful.

An apt celebration of our simple humanity. Sometimes we just need to let go and drift with the moments that make life worth living.
