Now

Now

A Poem by Cameron Gilhooly
"

A playful free verse poem in the style of Billy Collins.

"

The truth of the matter,

If you really must know,

Is that I am just pulling into a rain-soaked parking lot

Of a local bookstore

Mid-afternoon on a Wednesday,

Though that might be a stretch.

I am sitting.

Yes, that works.

I am wearing clothes.

I suppose that’s true as well.

I am scribbling shapes into a book

With a dulling yellow pencil.

We’ll go with that.

There are a lot of things

That I am not doing;

Arguably, many more things,

But these few are what I can,

With some level of certainty,

Say that I am truly, honestly, doing.

Right now.

Or I guess,

Just now.
