Numbed by "I Don't Care"

Numbed by "I Don't Care"

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

My senses wonder how to find peace among company not familiar with the lightest touch.

"

My senses wonder how to find peace
among company not familiar

with the lightest touch.
Even though I have written down
everything of which I dream.
My words are not heralded
by the new age the same
because a pebble
means more to them
than a beautiful sunset's beams.

The youngest
seem to rise inside the walls
with no names,
disguised as sparkling diamonds
known as hope.
I must beware of their winds
as they can overwhelm
the very air I cradle and for which I fight.
Or, I may find my Heaven
has become absent
and that I have given up everything
I know to be right.

I could look straight through the glass
and hear the strangest voices ever
from my reality.
And, I would want to know
what lies at the bottom,
posing as flowers for my hair.
Still, I find there are wrinkles in my climate
painted on the panes of life,
numbed by “I don't care”.

If I tried to escape or perhaps fight
for what I believe,
would I be considered shallow?
Could I still feel   the appeal of peace
or would I want to cover my heart in sleep?
So, I watch the schemes
of those not familiar with the lightest touch
then watch them drink the wine
of what they reap.

You may be expressing the changes you see and feel in life but I must first state that your evocative writing is constant as the dawn each day. I have written on these WC pages many times that you are one of the finest writers here. Neva, I think I understand everything you are expressing here. While in the transition of the past year, I have said I don’t care countless times and finally just felt like I may be in danger of giving up. After unpublishing over a hundred pieces and then writing another hundred poems that were never published here I said to myself again… "I don't care" “Understand this moment has come to just write what you feel… don’t ever let anyone say what you feel is wrong”…

A very sincere journey into life and thoughts.

We are backed into places and decisions. Seem we cannot win. Your poem made me think of things lost and not done. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

And the confliction begins, I not accustomed to this side of your work, your writes are usually full of hope and love, this write in a nutshell is WC and all it offers, it could be said the same of life itself, there is a lot of truth in here and that trait never leaves you Neva.

The water spiders, skimming the top, their reflections between their legs eight points, forget how to sink, how to reach ,to dive below ,grasp the delicate dandy lion peddles growing between the waves of fish.
Neva, I doubt if you tear rice paper as you walk, your words waltz across the ice turning thoughts into fluid strokes of emotion.

every write of yours that i read fills my senses. "could i still feel the appeal of peace or would i want to cover my heart in sleep?" this line speaks so deeply to my heart...and then the last line seals the deal perfectly.... another triumphant write, Neva

Always enjoy reading what you write and you have done it again. Another great one!

The whole poem is great...love the last stanza especially.
Looking forward to reading more.

My pleasure :)
' So, I watch the schemes ~ of those not familiar with the lightest touch ~ then watch them drink the wine ~ of what they reap. ' Such wisdom in those few words: an ultimate following the previous which seems to be a cry for subtle and joyful reality. Guess we all have to start somewhere, juggling with thoughts and creativity.. perhaps your poem will help the 'young' blossom and the arrogant amongst us think twice. Your work really is precious, Neva,

Neva you know how I love a poem I can relate too. I have to admit though my favorite stanza is the last. I can feel each and every word. It's been awhile since I read your work but you still leave me in aw of it!

There's a lot of spirit and passion in those words, and a subtle screaming for justice...nicely done. Kudos.

Thank you Frieda :)
there is such passion in what you write....and this reminds me of how things have changed since the 60's---

there is a feeling that has been lost..."flowers in her hair" have wilted..the hair tangled with the new generation's apathy.

i love this.

Thank you so much Jacob :)
This poem has a feel of dissappointment and incredulity at shallowness. In some ways it mirrors my experinces on WC were there are some absolutely fabulous writers who have a small foillowing but some who write 'stuff' and get the adulation of platitudes from shallow and unsophisticated youngsters. Never-the-less this poem is well written with a smooth flow of metaphors that describe your feelings well..
