Presence of Warmth

Presence of Warmth

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

Standing on the corner of never say no, my feet are firmly planted in I cannot say I am sorry.

"

I touched the presence of warmth on my pillow
it made me feel sure that I was safe,
went back to sleep smoother than my heartbeat.
Then I awoke to find myself hidden
behind memories of you.

Standing on the corner of never say no,
my feet are firmly planted
in I cannot say I am sorry.
Will I be the rock laying here asking myself
where I found this bitter pill
under my tongue?

Did I sleep while it rained on everything we ever had
until nothing but sand existed
inside all of these silent moments?
When bluebirds sang
about how the stars laugh
was I here drowning
in my pride?

I touched the presence of warmth on my pillow,
then I reached out to yours
felt the cold.
I lay here and listen to the rain
falling smoother than my heartbeat
I have never felt
so alone.

This poem has a lot to say about self preservation. Something about the two pillows stuck with me. The warmth of the pillow was almost like the connection between self and inner self. It felt so territorial to me for some reason. I couldn't get over it. The heart under the hardened exterior seemed to surface in the end. This is dynamic and has an amazing amount of things going. Its a cornucopia of emotion.

This has really touched me in ways I can't explain. I could really feel what you were saying & had grip to it.

This may be the saddest thing I have
ever read. It is sad, true, but it is
ingenious in construction and very
clever in content.

I would love to be able to write
something as sound and passionate.

Neva...so sad...poignant....and honest...
I....we have all been there...I think...
but you just have such an extraordinary way of expressing your feelings and making us empathize with you from the warmth of your pillow to the smoothness of your heartbeat...to the pallor of your aloneness.
A wonderful, touching write
as usual

It's so easy to hang onto our pride, the bitter pill of sorrow, as we awaken suddenly to realize it all slipped away. The cold of the pillow holds so much...beautifully captured.
