Presence of Warmth

Presence of Warmth

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

Standing on the corner of never say no, my feet are firmly planted in I cannot say I am sorry.

"

I touched the presence of warmth on my pillow
it made me feel sure that I was safe,
went back to sleep smoother than my heartbeat.
Then I awoke to find myself hidden
behind memories of you.

Standing on the corner of never say no,
my feet are firmly planted
in I cannot say I am sorry.
Will I be the rock laying here asking myself
where I found this bitter pill
under my tongue?

Did I sleep while it rained on everything we ever had
until nothing but sand existed
inside all of these silent moments?
When bluebirds sang
about how the stars laugh
was I here drowning
in my pride?

I touched the presence of warmth on my pillow,
then I reached out to yours
felt the cold.
I lay here and listen to the rain
falling smoother than my heartbeat
I have never felt
so alone.

This poem has a lot to say about self preservation. Something about the two pillows stuck with me. The warmth of the pillow was almost like the connection between self and inner self. It felt so territorial to me for some reason. I couldn't get over it. The heart under the hardened exterior seemed to surface in the end. This is dynamic and has an amazing amount of things going. Its a cornucopia of emotion.

This poem is very beautiful. There is also much sadness in it as well. To me it speaks of two people once very much in love, but for whatever reason;possibly something small the love has now faded. I like the last 2 Stanzas

Such wistfulness in each imaginative word.
You've captured a moment of solitude so
well, sadly beautiful Neva...xx

Heartrending. It plays your emotions like a harp, but discordantly so you feel the regret. Yet the craft behinf it draws you in and makes you a part of the work. You are in the bed, on the corner, feeling everything. Wether you want to or not. As the writer shifts, you shift. Perfect in every way

Yes there is reflection and saddness in this writing. So you have achieved the goal of touching your reader. Love the rain it releases ones heart into such a meloncoly place

The third stanza seems to be very phylosophical. The metaphor of rain and sand represents the all the worldly affairs , the earthly feelings and finally all will be turned into sands, I mean dust. It is like tenets from religion, I can any eligiion.
Meanwhile your thoughts becoming spiritual? OK well done as usual I liked the song most

Your poem reminds me of how much we can and do sleep through our relationships. Beautifully done! The third stanza is my favorite.

we have to live the way we believe , if we dont i think we die. sometimes we need pain ,to show us the way.

Love the various emotions portrayed here and how they are all interlinked to tell such a poetic tale, marvellous :)

Longing, an eternally valid theme, and you write about it with a smoothness that can be enjoyed slowly, like a fine whiskey or wine.
