Standing on the Edge of Tomorrow

Standing on the Edge of Tomorrow

A Poem by Charityjmg
"

A mother's emotional struggle letting her babies fly.

"
Wings spread wide and proud.
Eyes wide open with wonder and excitement.
Standing on the edge of the nest she so carefully designed.
Waiting for their opportunity.
Looking for the perfect adventure.

She can’t bear to watch, for there just outside her reach are the best parts
of her she gave away so long ago, getting ready to take flight.
Her strength and logic
Her heart of gold and love of people
Her compassion and will of fire

But she can’t take her eyes off them, for there also stands the beauty of tomorrow,
the excitement of yesterday, and the love of today.

As the day of flight closes in, she creates a fierce storm of tears and heartache:
Tears of pride, that they are her greatest accomplishments.
Tears of sadness, that she will miss their company.
Tears of joy, that they will follow their own dreams.
Tears of fear, that this world will hurt them.
Tears of hope, that they will create a happy, successful life of their own.
Tears of angry, that 18 years was not enough time.

Knowing she can’t hold them back, for this is the day they worked so hard for.
She calms the storm for the first one to fly, with a death grip on a time not so long ago where she was the center of his whole world and a steady stance in a daydream of a time to come of the next generation who will need her once again.

With one more reassuring glance her way, he takes flight.
And with him, goes all her strength and logic.
