Weight

Weight

A Poem by Chassediable

Time presses down more harshly than any weight.
It's that which we can't predict which hurts us most,
creates the fear we can't control and offers not a warning.

They said to me, "You're smart, you'll do great things",
but no one ever told me about the weight.
The Weight of Time, forever a reminder
of who I was, who I am - who I don't wish to be.

A child's heart holds no regret for it bears no weight. No past.
But my past has grown, how long have I lived?
Was it not just a moment ago that my parents said goodbye
as I left for school, for the first time?

No, not school, rather college, another repeat
in the endless cycles of history.
But this cycle is different, as now I live
With the weight of time on my shoulders.

With each passing moment it grows.
For every mistake, every scar, every tear.
Every opportunity I failed to grasp,
all those missed chances to save a life.

So what happened to the "Great things" they promised?
All their faith put in me, an unfounded expectation.
I became the very monster I tried so hard to control.
And the weight of my past will never let me go.

I love how you used weight to represent time also as I get older I feel the weight of time because you realize your running out of time, it becomes like a pressure to get everything done and accomplished before its too late.

I like this a lot. The way I interpreted is to mean that we are always responsible for our actions and as people grow older, we will be forced to carry the "weight" of what has happened in our past. I also like the vocabulary you used.

I've never been very good at describing myself. Most people would characterize me as a straightforward and logical thinker, but that doesn't really reflect who I am deep down. I'm quite an emotional p.. more..
