Alice at Tea

Alice at Tea

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin
"

" It was the stupidest tea party..." Alice

"

Life is a tea party

With most awkward

And unusual guests

Some of them

Quite mad

Forever ranting

And railing

Against all manner

Of injustice

Perceived or

Supposed

With or without

The benefit of facts

Others simply bored

With everything

Nodding away

With their whiskers

In their cups

Some of them

Are in a hurry

Always late

Although they mayn't

Have anyplace to go

They live for

Social demand

And are always

Running just a bit

Behind

Then you have Alice

Who knows

The entire thing

Is stupid

But has fallen

Down the rabbit hole

And became snared

By secret potions

And mushrooms

Until reality

And fantasy

Have become intertwined

Nobody pays her much

Notice

Since she's too real

For their taste

As she breaks teacups

And rules until it's

Off with her head!

It's often the way, of course, reality being what it is! Meanwhile, you've turned that glorious adult fairy story on its head, Fabian! In fact,. have turned it into a kind of political thrilled.. and very cleverly. You've captured disillusionment and cynicism at an event that projects the outsider into the foreground. Perhaps! The author had his own way with words and life, you know! Intriguing writing, sir.

Loved this philosophical twist on Alice in Wonderland. Nobody likes a realist at a party even if the cake is one fire. Great job here:)

Wow! A poet, a story teller and an artist. Sad ending to a nice fairy tale. Adults can enjoy it as much as children.

A wonderful story shared. Poor Alice may lose her head. Not a good tea date. I like reading the stories of the ancient writers. Not as sweet as the new tales of today. Thank you my friend for sharing the poetry and the tale.
