Rain Weaver

Rain Weaver

A Poem by Fabian G. Franklin

An arachnid in the downpour; sitting at his champagne piano, plucking soulful tunes and gulping drops of rain. His web, an intricate aluminum dartboard, designed to unravel the true intentions of the flood, while he crawls a bit higher beneath a covering leaf, rubbing the belly of a chrysalis with spindly, hairy legs. Oh, to sleep in such a cocoon, oblivious to dangers that pass us by, until we wake, reborn, with a different identity; washed clean as the penitent sinner or a shining, wet spider sheltered safely from the tambourine destruction of the storm.

Here, in the frosty morn I can't help but wonder of the life of a spider, as I see webs woven in hedgerows, glinting like a reminder of what we don't much think of when thinking of nature and the wild, untamed nature of other creatures.
But you have taken it to new heights with your perspective of a day in the life of our hairy legged friends (as long as they stay outdoors) and take me back to childhood, hearing, singing and doing the actions of singing incey wincey spider.
I do hope he made it to the top of that drainpipe at least once in his life before being washed back down again 😂

Well, Fabian, you still write exceedingly well. This is a Beauty. My favorite: "Oh, to sleep in such a cocoon, oblivious to dangers that pass us by..." And the rest of the phase wonderfully completes the thought. Kudos. High marks.

Wow! Love the tale that you have woven. I have always thought that Arachnids would be the last thing I would write something on but you have stretched my imagination through the piece.
The details are flawless.

An interesting short on the life of a spider, cozy, cotton weave protects him from the elements..."beneath a co0vering leaf"..It seems you may be a bit jealous of their simple protective life, spinning and weaving elaborate webs that we can see out our windows, in fact, everywhere...we wake after a storm, "washed as clean as a penitent sinner..." lovely poem Fabian.
