Winter's Preserves

Winter's Preserves

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer

The winter blast did wane.
As the New Year welcomed the sun,
and the Northern Brute did sleep.
Making us windless all the day long.
The weaver’s web gleamed with frost,
preserving dreams with each passing star,
and with the blushing beams of day,
hope for Spring is cradled.

I thought it was a fun idea. To capture a nice winter day like a sweet treat.
A very warm poem which shows us that spring is not far away...the sun is always a welcome sign...the frost will soon melt on the weavers web. I love the imagery here, really bring nature to life....

I got his notion of hopes and dreams (instead of lost or spoiled) canned and stored for later.

I like the idea of a spider's web snagging dreams of passing stars. Nice imagery.

Thank you :)
Yum...what glittering pice, hope springs eternal as the heavy hand of winter gives way to hope and warm spring days. Loved it!

I liked the idea of winter's hopes being put up like a batch of preserves.

I wasn't sure if the idea would translate. . I'm glad it did.

hopes, after this winter we will long for the warmth.
I am from NY and lived near Chicago for years, so am used to the cold.
But here in Southern Illinois we had 24 below wind chill, very cold for here.
I have to preserve a bit of that warmth in my heart.
I really like this piece....check the second word in title...
so good to see you on the board again, Cherrie.

Thank you for the heads-up. I can't always see those. That's what I get when I edit on the phone... read more
Getting back into living on the east coast after so many years in Southern California has been quite an undertaking, emotionally, mentally and physically. My body is still transitioning to the cold, but it seems my muse is feeling quite at home in a most prolific way. Such beautiful lines throughout this piece, Cherrie...the last four are exquisite. Love the title. Seasonal writes always snare my attention the most. Good work!

Gee
Cradle hopes of spring...I yearn to feel the warmth of spring sunshine as here in the UK we go from -11 to +10 then back below zero, up again to +5 but with cold winds and rain.I HATE THE COLD which does not help when working in construction:((
Happy New year Cherrie
